She also discussed the future of diesel powered vehicles in California and what we can expect from new diesel technologies. She speculated on what the future holds in terms of air quality regulations and how new regulations could affect diesel and bio-diesel power.
The Chapter did not have a meeting in December in order to give everyone more time to share the spirit of the holidays. The new year started on January 9, 2008 with a meeting at the new Union Hotel Restaurant in Santa Rosa. The conference committee continues to prepare for the 2008 Conference and Equipment Show to be held August 26 to 28, 2008 at the Double Tree Hotel in Rohnert Park. Regular meetings are being held with the individual committee chairs and much progress has been made to date. We are looking forward to a great show with many vendors already registered. The Program Committee has come up with a variety of topics covering parks, water, wastewater, fleet, streets, and personnel management. The spouses program should be entertaining with activities planned for the wine country including a ride and lunch on the Napa Valley Wine Train and a trip to the historic town of Healdsburg for a lunch and shopping excursion. The Wine Country is a great place to visit in late summer as the harvest begins and the weather mellows so the committee is preparing a variety of information for those who may wish to extend their stay beyond the conference. There will also be the usual golf tournament and fishing trip for those who wish to enjoy the comradeship of other conference goers. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our area for a good time while you learn. Our current president is Jim Montenegro, City of Santa Rosa, who can be reached at (707) 343-3936

SAN DIEGO: This report coves the three month period following our annual report which was presented at the annual conference in September. First off, the San Diego Area Chapter wishes to extend its congratulations to Rick Fulmer as the winner of the Peter Walsh Award and to all the folks of the Greater Ventura Chapter who helped Rick conduct a very successful conference.
Our regular monthly membership meeting for October was cancelled due to the wildfires which impacted so much of the county and many of our members. However, we met again in the last two months of the calendar year which included our Christmas get together at French restaurant in Carlsbad which included a musical presentation by the choir from Mira Costa Community College. As we did last year, we targeted a specific charity to support with a substantial contribution. This year the chapter gave a donation of $2,500 to Water for People. One of their representatives provided an informative presentation of the work that this group does providing clean water for communities in third world nations. The chapter also made a contribution of $300 to the community college choir to help them with their transportation needs for a trip to Costa Rica. The chapter's executive board is in the process of establishing two or three major goals for 2008. There continues to be a lot of participation in the public works management program which is conducted in cooperation with the local APWA Chapter and Palomar Community College. Our web site is just about ready to go "live" and we are excited about the potential it has to help promote the MSA and its mission. Our part-time bookkeeper has been employed for approximately three months now which has greatly improved the efficiency of our financial operations as well as a variety of other administrative functions. Our current president, Jim Howell, City of Poway (retired), can be reached at (858) 922-8050.
