The Traffic and Lighting Supervisor reports to the Street Operations Manager and supervises 10 employees. The Supervisor plans, coordinates and supervises the installation, maintenance and repair of City traffic signals, outdoor overhead lighting, traffic signs, pavement markings and other assigned traffic control devices. Work involves interactions with City Officials, contractors and residents. The Supervisor's role includes scheduling delivery of materials; supervising, evaluating and training work crews engaged in daily operations; reviewing and approving completed activity; obtaining, allocating and maximizing resources; and preparing and maintaining operational and administrative records. The incumbent will work closely with the engineering division of Public Works on modification of field conditions and assists with the design of traffic control plans.

Any combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
High School Graduation or equivalent; and a Vocational/Technical degree or certificate with an emphasis in traffic engineering, traffic control and signal devices; supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in traffic control installation, repair and maintenance work; or an y equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
License or Certificate
Must possess and maintain the following: An appropriate, valid California Driver's license. A Level 1 or 2 International Municipal Signal Association Traffic Signal Certification is desirable.
Successful candidates will possess the following: Strong technical experience in electrical and electronics; Public sector experience with paint, signage usage and outdoor lighting; Good record-keeping and documentation skills; Good understanding of OSHA guidelines, safety procedures, rules and regulations; Effective communications skills both verbal and written; Good interpersonal skills; The ability to read, understand and interpret specifications, diagrams, and schematics; The ability to work independently, be proactive in developing traffic and lighting programs and contribute to future development with those programs.
