Salary: $101,837 - $123,781/Annually
The City of American Canyon is seeking a Superintendent to direct, management supervise, and coordinate Public Works field operations, and maintenance activities in various assigned areas such as water distribution, sewer collection, streets and storm drain maintenance, storm water pollution prevention, water conservation, and solid waste reduction and to provide highly responsible and complex support to upper management.
The ideal candidate for PW Superintendent will have a broad range of field experience in all areas of public works. Areas of responsibility include water distribution, sewer collection, road maintenance, traffic signal and streetlight maintenance (contract), reclaimed water distribution, storm water collection, building maintenance, and fleet maintenance. Competitive candidates will have the ability to develop strong, positive relationships with field staff as well as staff from other divisions within public works and other City departments. An individual with the ability to balance technical field tasks with administrative/management responsibilities will do well in this position. The ideal candidate will also possess the skills necessary to develop and mentor existing staff.
Experience and Education: Any combination of experience & education that demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skills and ability to perform the required job duties. Typical examples include:
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in the maintenance and operation of a variety of a public and/or private facilities and/or projects. (For example, as a Maintenance Supervisor at the City of American Canyon or reasonable equivalent thereto);
Three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in the maintenance and operation of a variety of public and/or private facilities and/or projects (For example, as a Maintenance Supervisor at the City of American Canyon or reasonable equivalent there to plus a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major in engineering, geology, construction management, business administration, or public administration.
Certificate: A Water Distribution D-3 certificate is desirable.
Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis. (1) Mobility: frequent performance of heavy manual labor; frequent standing for long periods of time; frequent bending and squatting. (2) Lifting: frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 75 pounds. (3) Vision: constant use of overall vision. (4) Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. (5) Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person. (6) Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone. (7) Environmental: frequent exposure to loud noise; frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other environmental substances.
Other Requirements: Evening weekend, and holiday work may be required
