The Position
Contra Costa County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) maintains over 660 miles of roads, 150 miles of streams, channels and other drainage and over 200 County buildings throughout Contra Costa County. CCCPWD provides services such as Parks and Recreation, Sand Bag Distribution and Flood Control throughout unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County.

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department is currently recruiting to fill Maintenance Worker I vacancies. All interested and qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
The Maintenance Worker I customarily perform a variety of manual tasks as a member of a maintenance or clean-up crew; and to perform other work as required. They will be assigned to perform a variety of manual labor tasks in all weather conditions in connection with construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, buildings, flood control channels and other structures. Maintenance Worker I’s perform traffic control, move and transport materials and debris, dig holes, and level and sweep dirt. They also load and unload trucks, trim trees, cut brush, move and install timbers and boards. Maintenance Worker I’s are required to drive light trucks and operate a variety of hand powered and pneumatic tools. They are expected to follow safe working practices and procedures and to wear proper protective equipment as required.

What you will typically be responsible for:
· Performing routine heavy manual laboring work, as a member of a maintenance or clean-up crew
· Using various and electric or pneumatic powered tools in the performance of assigned work; such as, patching pavement, cutting and undergrowth from drainage channels along roadways
· Loading and removing debris from streets and roads
· Assisting in keeping tools and equipment in working condition
· Directing traffic by motioning with flag(s) when construction work obstructs normal traffic routes

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Desirable Qualifications:
· Experience working with a computer and using basic office software
· Experience operating or working around heavy equipment
· Experience working with and applying road construction materials
· Possession of a Class A drivers license with tank and combination endorsements
· Experience using and/or applying pesticides and herbicides
· Experience working in Emergency response
Selection Process
1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
2. Online Multiple Choice Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online multiple choice assessment. The multiple choice exam will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include, but are not limited to: safety focus, professional integrity and ethics, teamwork and reading comprehension (Weighted 60%).
3. Online Performance Assessment: Candidates who achieve a passing score on the online multiple choice assessment will be invited to participate in an online performance assessment. The performance assessment will measures candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include, but are not limited to: attention to detail, listening and oral communication (Weighted 40%).
The Multiple Choice Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place online mid May 2021.
The Performance Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place online mid May 2021. The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
