Position Description
Under direction, supervises maintenance and construction activities on streets, bridges, concrete infrastructure, traffic signals and streetlights, paint and sign, and related public works infrastructure. Incumbent schedules, trains, supervises and evaluates assigned staff; receives, investigates, and resolves complaints from the public and communicates with City departments and other agencies in coordination of staff, resources, inspections and projects. One vacancy currently exists in the Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance Division. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
For this assignment, qualified individuals for either Streets Operations or Concrete Operations may be considered. You must possess (4) years of field experience in concrete, asphalt construction or maintenance. If you are interested in other operational areas, you must complete an application during this filing period in order to be considered for future vacancies that may occur during the duration of the eligible list. Also, please be sure to provide detail information when completing the supplemental questions. Note: Recruitment may be limited to a specific operational area of expertise as required by operational needs. Operational areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, those detailed below: 1. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
As required by Emergency Order 2021-02, section 7.8, newly hired City employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. The Requirements
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure a place on the eligibility list.
Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent GED completion.
For assignment to street, bridge, concrete, roadway maintenance construction or roadway maintenance paint and signs: must have four (4) years of field experience which includes, one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
For assignment to traffic signals and streetlights: must have four (4) years of experience as an electrician in an industrial or commercial setting involving the construction, maintenance or repair of traffic signals, roadway street lighting systems, or mechanical systems, which includes one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
Depending on assignment, may be required to obtain and maintain additional certificates and/or licenses.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess a valid Class C California Driver's License at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
Eligibles certified for consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
Selection Process
The selection process may consist of the following: Application Review - Qualifying Only: Applications submitted will be reviewed and a limited number of the most qualified candidates will be invited to the oral examination. Selection of the most qualified candidates will be based upon those applications demonstrating the greatest breadth and depth of applicable training, experience, and education. Therefore, applicants are urged to submit sufficiently detailed information in their application materials for a proper evaluation. Oral Examination - 100%: A panel of subject matter experts will conduct a job-related Oral Examination to evaluate each candidate's knowledge of principles and practices of methods, tools, requirements, operating practices, regulations and applicable codes related to street maintenance; ability to supervise, train and evaluate subordinate personnel and establish and maintain effective working relationships; and other training, experience and personal traits for the position. Veteran’s Preference Regulations
Qualified veterans who pass the examination may obtain five (5) additional points.
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
UNIT 13 Classification: City of Fresno Professional Employees Association (CFPEA)
3% salary increase, effective June 20, 2022
3% salary increase, effective June 19, 2023

Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP)
DROP is an optional, voluntary program that allows you to have your retirement benefits deposited in a special savings account within your Retirement System all while you continue to work for the City of Fresno.
