Position Description The Water System Supervisor plans, coordinates, assigns, participates in, directs and supervises the day-to-day operation and maintenance activities of water system staff and crews performing manual, semi-skilled and skilled work in Well Head maintenance on over 300 groundwater wells: including pulling/installing pumps, pump pedestal and discharge line builds, well videos with analysis, data collection to obtain specific capacities for Overall Plant efficiencies (OPE’s) and well disinfection/flushing/sampling; the maintenance and operation of approximately 300 acres of artificial ground water recharge basins; coordination of ground water recharge in 70+ storm drainage basins, flow meter installs and repairs, in conjunction with Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District and Fresno Irrigation District . The incumbent will be responsible for meeting operational and service levels for all maintenance, repair, and operation of the division’s groundwater wells, and Recharge Facilities. Incumbents may be required to work evenings, holidays, weekends, and serve in an after hours on-call rotation as part of a regular work schedule. One vacancy exists in the Department of Public Utilities Water Division, in the Distribution/Production Operational Area. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

One (1) year of full-time lead or supervisory work experience AND graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in civil or sanitary engineering, water supply, hydraulics, or a closely related field;
Two (2) years of progressively responsible full-time paid work experience in the operation and maintenance of community water systems which includes one year of full-time experience providing lead or full first-line supervisory direction AND twenty-four semester units from an accredited college or university in civil or sanitary engineering, water supply, hydraulics, or a closely related field;
Three (3) years of progressively responsible full-time paid work experience in the operation and maintenance of community water systems which includes one year of full-time experience providing lead or full first-line supervisory direction.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required during the entire term of employment as a Water System Supervisor. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
- For assignment to Water Distribution/Production Operations (Current Vacancy), possession and continued maintenance of a valid Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade D3, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, within eighteen months of assignment.

Selection of the most qualified candidates will be based upon those applications demonstrating the greatest breadth and depth of applicable education, experience, skills and training. Oral Examination: 100% - A panel of subject matter experts will conduct a job-related oral examination to evaluate a candidate's knowledge of: principle and practices of operations, installation, and maintenance of water systems; equipment used in testing, cleaning, inspection, repair and preventative maintenance and safety practices; ability to supervise, train and evaluate subordinate staff, communicate effectively, orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The oral examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of January 9, 2022.
Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule

3% salary increase, effective June 19, 2023

Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP)
DROP is an optional, voluntary program that allows you to have your retirement benefits deposited in a special savings account within your Retirement System all while you continue to work for the City of Fresno. To participate you must be at least age 50 with 5 years of service. Benefits include ownership of DROP account monies, compound interest earnings, and alternative distribution options.
