The Position:
This management position serves as a division head of the Maintenance Operations Division and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the effective maintenance and repair of the City’s facilities, traffic signals, street lights, parking meters, sewers, streets, street trees along with management of graffiti abatement; may act for the Public Works Director / City Engineer in his / her absence. The functional areas of responsibility assigned to this position include developing objectives and evaluating the effectiveness of preventative maintenance and repair programs related to electrical equipment, traffic signals, street lights, City facilities and street, sewer, street tree infrastructures and graffiti abatement. Prepares and monitors the annual budget for the Division ensuring the budget adequately documents the amount and level of services provided and expenditures are kept within limits. Directs the development and implementation of plans and programs to improve the efficiency of all maintenance operations including cost control programs, manpower utilization studies and work method improvements. Assures personnel is properly trained in work and safety procedures. Assures that first line supervisors develop effective work scheduling and control systems which may include periodically inspecting the sites and issuing work orders to the supervisors.
Minimum Requirements:
Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field. Must possess at least four (4) years of experience in public works or the skilled maintenance of buildings, electrical equipment, traffic signals, streets, sewers, and trees including two (2) years of first line supervisory experience.

The City of Culver City is seeking a Maintenance Operations Manager with strong management skills to ensure projects and services are delivered efficiently and effectively and that problems get resolved. Ideal candidate is highly motivated and thrives in a fast-paced environment with a wide variety of responsibilities. The individual selected needs to demonstrate effective problem solving skills and oral communication skills. Will provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure high performance. Knowledge of safety procedures utilized in Public Works maintenance, construction, and repair is expected. Knowledge of work order and asset management systems is highly desirable.

Examination Procedures:
Applications will be screened and those deemed most qualified will be invited to a written / performance examination, weighted at 50% and an oral appraisal interview, weighted at 50%. The written / performance examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 14, 2021 and the oral appraisal interview is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 5, 2021.
