The Department: The Department of Public Services and Engineering is responsible for maintaining the City’s physical infrastructure and maintenance for the City’s beaches, parks, sanitary sewer, storm drain systems, and rights of way, while protecting the public’s health and safety. The department also provides engineering management, including planning, design, construction, and repair of the City’s buildings, parks, streets, and utility systems in addition to management of a wide range of services and programs.
THE POSITION:
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate to supervise the General Services (Facilities, Fleet, and Streets) Division of Coronado’s Public Services department will be a self-motivated individual who possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to work efficiently will all City Departments, employees, and contractors. They will need extensive experience in leading and/or supervising staff, managing contractors, and will possess a professional history that demonstrates the following leadership competencies and attributes:
Organizational awareness and ability to anticipate sensitive issues that could impact the community.
Ability to train and develop staff utilizing proper work methods, techniques, principles, and applications.
Interpret, explain, and implement department policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of experience and education/training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: At least five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in public works maintenance, construction or repair including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree with major course work in business administration, public administration, or a related field including engineering, construction management, forestry, parks administration, horticulture or botany.
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record. Examination and Selection Process: Application Review Phase: A completed City of Coronado employment application, cover letter, and resume must be received by the Human Resources Division by 11:59 AM PST on May 14, 2023. Applications will be reviewed on the basis of relevant education, training, and experience. Examination Phase: Applicants considered most qualified after the application review process will be invited to participate in an oral panel interview (100%). Interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 31, 2023. Department Interview: Applicants considered most qualified after the application review process will be invited to participate in an oral panel interview (100%). Interviews are scheduled for the week of June 5, 2023. Establishment of Eligibility List: Candidates who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list for a period of at least six months. Candidates must obtain a 70% or above in all components of the examination to be considered as having passed. Applicants will be notified via email of their eligibility status. Addition Information: All appointments are subject to the successful completion of a background check and medical examination.
