PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is responsible for field inspections of public works and public utilities projects, operating the City’s water and sewer utilities, maintaining safe streets, sidewalks, and transportation, preservation of the City’s eight parks and other green spaces, providing a variety of environmental services, and maintaining all public facilities. Monrovia Public Works strives to provide the highest level of service to residents and businesses. The department is organized into two sections: Administration and Operations and together are responsible for all planning, construction, and maintenance of the City’s public infrastructure to preserve and maintain natural resources and provide a premier environment to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. The Public Works department is in the midst of an aggressive five-year CIP that provides direction and organization to ensure the City’s financial resources are focused on projects that are priority for community enhancements.
THE POSITION
This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing operational responsibilities including, but not limited to:
· Inspects all phases of public works contracts and construction projects including streets, curbs, sewers, gutters, storm drains, and alley pavement;
· Enforce compliance with contract plans and specifications;
· Perform field surveys; investigate public complaints and inquires; confer with property owners regarding project schedule, hazards, and inconvenience;
· Review construction plans/blueprints, conduct final inspections of projects within city property or right of way and finalize encroachment and construction permits; and
· Answer inquiries from the public, both in person and over the phone, providing construction and related codes information and explaining procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the qualifications would be:
High School graduation and three (3) years experience in construction and/or construction inspection of public, residential, and commercial construction. Experience working with diverse groups and ability to exercise cultural sensitivity and awareness is highly desirable.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record. Grade I Water Distribution Certificate is highly desirable.
