Due to the considerably independent nature of the work, we are looking for a self-starter with the ability to take initiative. In addition to having excellent customer service skills, our ideal candidate will also have experience in public works contract administration and/or maintenance, budget management, supervisory principles, and complex research and analysis activities. This individual will have knowledge of engineering and construction principles, State of California Americans with Disabilities Act, and the usage of proper English spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Plans, supervises, trains, and evaluates the activities and operations of the special districts and facilities maintenance staff. Performs budgetary, fiscal, organizational and administrative studies, ensures regulatory compliance. Develops, administers and manages various contracts, including Public Works capital improvement projects. Supervises field inspections construction, installation, repair and maintenance of City facilities, City and Special District maintained areas. Acts as a Public Works liaison with other departments. Designs, plans, implements and maintains various programs and activities, including short and long range planning, budget development and preparation for 12 divisions, community outreach. Acts as the ADA coordinator for city owned assets.
Receives general direction from the Assistant Director of Public Works for Maintenance Operations, or assigned supervisor. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible public works contract administration and/or public works maintenance experience, including two years of lead or supervisory experience.
Education/Training:Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade supplemented by two years of college-level coursework (i.e., minimum completed California units = 60 semester/90 quarter) from an accredited educational institution in engineering, public administration, or a related field. Associate's degree preferred.
